Bath time

You are currently browsing the archive for the Bath time category.

Splish splash I was taking a bath!

Actually today it’s less of a bath, more of a swim, but a Cuddledry towel would come in equally as handy…

Today we’ve got a really fun prize for you – a set of lovely swimming toys from the swim school Water Babies, all packed up in their own swim bag.

As well as a woggle, you get lots of lovely toys that your little one can enjoy in the bath or at the pool, that are designed to improve water confidence and help your child with the first steps towards swimming.

To enter today’s competition, leave a comment telling us what your child loves best about bath or swim time.

See the full rules here.

You know how much we love bath time right? Well we’re really exciting today to be giving away a fantastic bundle of bath time goodies. One lucky person is going to win not one, not two, but THREE prizes today!

First up, we’ve got a funky Flexibath from Whitestep, an amazing baby bath tub that folds flat when you’re not using it, so you can store it easily. Bathrooms aren’t known after all for being the most spacious rooms in the house…

The Flexibath is soft and pliable to the touch, but very solid. It’s also free from nasty chemicals, so you and your little one can enjoy bath times without any worries. They’re brilliant for travelling and camping, or even for storage when you’re not using them as a bath!

To go with your bath, we’ve got some lovely accessories from our chums over at Brother Max, including the quirky and fun Brother Max Hold & Wash Bath Sponge, which is super soft, and fits your hand like a glove, and Brother Max’s Play, Wash & Learn™ Bath Toy Collection.

With such an amazing colletion of goodies, how could bath time fail to be fun?! All you need to get then is a Cuddledry baby apron towel!

To enter today’s competition, leave a comment on this post telling us why you love baby bath times as much as we do. If you’re interested, full competition rules are available here.

Did you know that Whitestep have recently joined twitter? We’ve found out that they’re giving away one of their fab Create-a-World play sets, worth £49.95, when they get to 200 followers, so go and make friends with them now!

When a well-known brand like Cuddledry launches a new product, you could be forgiven for thinking that behind the scenes is a team of professional agencies, stylists and models, all coming together to seamlessly create a range of marketing and promotional materials.

Hmmm… well…

You’re half right maybe.

Of course we are all terribly efficient and professional here at Cuddledry – obviously – but as small, independent business, there is a definite shortage of glitz and glamour behind the scenes. We are always balancing work with family commitments, and rely heavily on the support of accommodating friends and our own children when it comes to modelling.

Take as an example the photoshoot for our new funky colour changing bathmat – the Cuddlemat. Cuddledry photo shoots are always completely insane, as inevitably kids never ever do what you want, and Sarah and Fifi – both age three, great friends, and rulers of their playgroup -  had a total riot on this one.

Our guest post today is from Holly, blogger at It’s A Mummy’s Life, mother of two girls under three years old and proud owner of one full time job.  She can mostly be seen drinking coffee and trying to keep her eyes open enough to fool her boss that she’s listening to him.  In her ‘spare’ time she plays Princesses and Fairies with her girls.

As a new mother we all have such high expectations, hopes and dreams for our baby and most probably a fairly fixed idea of how we will adapt as mothers.

Some women take to motherhood like babies to explosive nappies, but some are less sure of what to do and search desperately for the ‘how to’ book before realising the baby didn’t come with instructions.  That was me in case you’re wondering.

So here are a few things I wish I’d known then that might have helped make my early months as a mum less stressful.

Don’t they? It’s not just us I’m sure…

Recently, we had an email from a lovely lady called Lorna who wanted to tell us how much her daughter Indigo loves her Cuddledry towel!

“She loves her towel,” Lorna told us, “I get so many comments about it if people are here at bathtime. Our lodger is a midwife and one of her pregnant colleagues just had a baby shower.  As a result of seeing Indigo in her Cuddledry she bought one for her colleague – all the midwives at the Baby Shower were very impressed with the gift so hopefully they’ll pass on the info to new mums in the birthing unit!!”

That’s the kind of email we love getting!

Lorna also very kindly sent us some gorgeous pictures of Indigo enjoying her towel, and is happy for us to share them with you.

With the festival season drawing to a close, we couldn’t resist one last weekend away, this time at the new Just So Festival in Staffordshire.

Set in acres of beautiful, ancient woodland, it was the perfect setting for families to get away from everything, and indulge in some quality time with nature. The festival is the first of its kind aimed specifically at young children, so it was a great opportunity for Cuddledry to lend a hand, by providing towels for festival babies to enjoy their evening baths:

Did you know that a baby can drown in under a minute in less than an inch of water?

Baby bath time is a lovely time of the day – it’s  a chance to unwind, spend some fun time together, and have lots of cuddles – but it’s also true though that accidents can happen at bath times.

It was concerns for safety and a desire to minimise stress at bath times that actually inspired the invention of the Cuddledry baby apron towel. We realised that slippery baby in one hand + small towel in the other = a lot of unnecessary stress! The Cuddledry fastens around the neck like an apron, leaving both hands free for safely lifting your baby out of the bath.

Looking for ways to turn bath time into fun time? Cuddledry asked Cathy James for some ideas. Cathy is a mother of two girls and an Early Years educator who runs her own childcare business. She is the founder of Nurturestore, a site dedicated to inspiring parents to give their chidren the best start in life by nurturing them through play.

In most families with young children bath time is an essential part of a bedtime routine. As well as its practical function of getting messy children clean have you thought of the ways bath time play can help your child to develop? At Nurturestore we’re passionate about giving children opportunities to learn but always in a fun and playful way – and there’s no better time than bath time in which to do this.

Bubbles build brain power

Using bubbles, whether from bubble bath or blown from a pot of a bubble juice, can help your child to develop their thinking skills. At first appearance the bubbles look like solid objects, so you’ll notice a look of surprise when your little one pops a bubble. It’s a change they weren’t expecting and this challenges their thinking, giving them new information about the world to ponder. Bubbles are also wonderful for sensory play – they’re tactile and fragrant and so stimulate a young child’s senses.

Bath-time maths

How about providing some bottles and funnels in different sizes for your child to play with. As they pour water from one size bottle to another, and see how the water sometimes doesn’t fill the bottle and sometimes over flows, they’re working with mathematical concepts. This early play is in fact teaching your child about volume and dimension.

Sink or Swim

You can bring a science to bath time for even the youngest children by providing a selection of objects for them to see what sinks and what floats. Try a flannel, a cork, a toothbrush, a wooden block and a teaspoon.

Rhyme Time

Singing with your child is such a good way to help them develop language skills and there are lots of songs which work well at bath time. You could try:

Row, Row, Your Boat

I’m a Little Teapot

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles

Imagination Station

A final idea for bath time is to vary the toys available to give you child the chance to exercise their imagination. Give them a few boats and passengers to play with. Perhaps a family of rubber ducks or some undersea creatures. Try a teapot with cups and saucers or a plastic doll, a flannel and an empty shampoo bottle. Sit alongside them to join in their play, but let them take the lead and see how their creative ideas come to life.

I hope you’ll have fun helping your child try some of these ideas and I hope you’ll come over to Nurturestore for more inspiration on ways to get the most from your child’s play.

Happy bath-times!

Cathy

P.S. From Cuddledry – don’t forget your snuggly baby apron towel for a stress free finish to bath time!

Hello! Thank you so much for visiting our new blog.

Everyone here at Cuddledry is very excited about this new part of our site. As parents, we know how valuable it is to be able to share experiences and hear stories from other people finding their way in the world of nappies, sleepless nights and milk sodden clothes. Life with a new baby can be scary and isolating, so it is hugely reassuring to hear that other people are going through the same thing.

With this blog we want to bring you information, but also support. We want it to be somewhere you can take comfort, a refuge from babyworld, a place to come when you need to know you’re not alone.

To mark the launch of the blog, we are thrilled to have on board a whole host of fantastic mummy bloggers. Beginning on Monday, to coincide with celebrations of Mothers Day, we will be starting a month of guest posts, covering everything from fertility to dummies, breastfeeding to travelling with babies. The women we have contributing are all parents, as well as being fantastic writers, so we hope this month will be an opportunity for you to discover lots of new and inspiring blogs.

We want this to be your blog. Please tell us what you’d like to see, what topics you’d like covered, what you’d like us to talk about. Please tell us what bits you like, as well as what bits you don’t. We look forward to seeing you back soon!

Love from the Cuddledry team xx
