Guest blogger update: Baby Nathan at two months old…

Today we have the latest in our series of guest posts from new mum Kayleigh – baby Nathan is two months old now, and growing fast!…

Nathan is now two months old and there are little parts of his personality coming through. He is a very smiley baby and my computer is slowly filling up with a ridiculously large number of pictures. I think my friends are getting tired of the daily picture updates on facebook and statuses telling everyone that Nathan just did a poo or something!

My collection of none-blue baby clothes is growing but so is Nathan! He outgrew his newborn clothes in about a week and is now in 0-3 months. I also received his appointment for his first vaccinations and it feels like a court summons. I am absolutely dreading it, but thankfully Kevin will be there for moral support. Nathan’s cord finally dropped off and his skin isn’t so dry anymore. Sadly we are now fighting a losing battle with cradle cap *disgruntled mumblings*

We have introduced a bottle instead of the beaker for those formula top ups once a day in the morning given by daddy so mummy can get just 2 hours of unbroken sleep! The house is getting back to some sort of normality and I find if I get showered and dressed before Kevin goes to work I can usually get out of the house by noon.

This month we had our NCT antenatal class reunion and it was lovely to meet all the babies. We lined them up in age order and took a photo, although Nathan and the eldest baby started whacking each other from the side!  Apart from that he was very well behaved. It was interesting to hear all the birth stories and watch all the fathers leave the room quickly to talk about football when we started talking about episiotomies and dilation! I must say I was very jealous of the woman who had the only baby girl of the group, as all she did was sleep, even when she was changed – incredible!

Nathan also met his granddad (my father) and Kevin’s parents this month and I think they suspect we have a devil child, as all he did on both occasions was scream unless he was attached to my boobs. I have also realised how annoying it is when people ask those famous questions “Is he sleeping through?” (Then proceed to tell me what a wonderful sleeper their baby is) “Are you still breastfeeding?” (Is he still growing? Then yes I am) “Is he good?” (Good?? He’s a baby, how can he be bad?!) “He shouldn’t be feeding that often, my baby goes 3 hours between feeds” (Yes dear but you formula feed so he/she will go longer) “Why don’t you leave him to cry?” (Because I didn’t have a baby to listen to him cry).

Lots of gritted teeth answers! I’ve also, much to Kevin’s dismay, bought some cloth nappies to try out. It will save us money in the long run and with summer coming up, cloth nappies are cooler than disposables.

So many changes this month and I cannot wait to see what next month will bring. His first laugh maybe? He is still too young to grab toys, making playing quite difficult, so it is pretty much a constant battle to keep him entertained until he learns, but all those wonderful smiles make everything worthwhile.
