Enough of toilet training, we’re going to spoil the mummies again today with a gorgeous baby proof necklace from Mama Jewels.

If you don’t have a baby anymore, we think it’s pretty lovely regardless!

No matter how much you try to distract them, babies have a habit of grabbing the things you’d really rather they didn’t – glasses, hair, earrings – nothing is safe!

When my daughter Belle was breastfeeding, her favourite thing to grab was my spare nipple. Really NOT what you want in a busy restaurant…

If only Mama Jewels had been around when Belle was a baby, maybe my dignity would have been spared. Mama Jewels are a range of teething and breastfeeding necklaces, designed to give your baby something safe to grab and chew, without compromising your style.

Tina Holmes and her daughter Lexie, tried out the Mama Jewels breastfeeding necklace and here she is telling us how they got on…

“The necklace is really beautifully made with colorful  and attractive beads and appears to be very strong, which is vital with any child in my opinion – I get so fed up with buying things and ten minutes later they are broken! Well I am positive this is not going to happen with these beads.

“I know that having a distraction for those little hands really improved my breastfeeding experience - no more scratching, pulling of clothes or hair for me. Lexie seemed to be very transfixed with the beads and loved looking at them definitely kept her visually stimulated while I did my job.

“I liked the beads that much I’ve worn them out and about as day to day wear, defiantly a big thumbs up from me.”

To celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Week, we have a post today from Laura, mum to Logan, and writer of  ‘The Breastest News’. Laura is writing about her experiences of breastfeeding, a tricky topic for so many mums. How did you get on with breastfeeding? Did you love it from day one, or bottle feed from the start? We’d love to hear your stories…

With so many controversial statements and health advice these days on breastfeeding, I thought it would be a good idea to share my experiences with everyone. Lots of women choose to breastfeed and lots of women bottle feed their babies so here is my story of what I did.

When I first became pregnant my partner and I never discussed how we would feed our baby as we had always just assumed I would breastfeed - it is a natural thing to do, and something that is great for the baby and the mother, not only for the health benefits but for the bonding experience as well. We progressed through my pregnancy well and made a point of not buying any bottles or milk, to give me extra encouragement to breastfeed, although my mind was already firmly set on it.

Today’s guest post comes from Kelly Brett, blogger at Writings, Ramblings and Reviews, and founder of Piddley Pix

When it comes to pregnancy and parenting, breastfeeding is one of the most controversial subjects.I am not sure why, as it is the most natural thing to do, the body was built for it after all. It all starts during pregnancy with the ‘will you?’, which turns to a ‘are you?’ once you have given birth, which turns again to ‘are you still?’ at various stages through the first few months. These questions come from professionals, colleagues, friends and even strangers.

There is masses of advice, guidance and opinions on breastfeeding, how to start, how to continue, why it is good, public or not – but there is one question that is rarely answered. When is the right time to stop?

Becoming a father is a massive life change that can bring with it many new questions and how and what to feed your new baby is one of the most important decisions you will make. When it comes to breastfeeding, dads may be in the dark about the physical and emotional benefits it offers, as well as the practicalities of how it works, and may be left wondering where they fit in.

It’s fair to say that breastfeeding can seem a bit of a one woman show at times. We have yet to evolve to the point where breastfeeding can be shared by fathers and just as this can often be overwhelming for mothers, it can lead to dads feeling left out or second best. This is especially true in the early weeks when your baby seems to do little BUT breastfeed!

Today we have the latest in our series of guest posts from new mum Kayleigh – baby Nathan is two months old now, and growing fast!…

Nathan is now two months old and there are little parts of his personality coming through. He is a very smiley baby and my computer is slowly filling up with a ridiculously large number of pictures. I think my friends are getting tired of the daily picture updates on facebook and statuses telling everyone that Nathan just did a poo or something!

My collection of none-blue baby clothes is growing but so is Nathan! He outgrew his newborn clothes in about a week and is now in 0-3 months. I also received his appointment for his first vaccinations and it feels like a court summons. I am absolutely dreading it, but thankfully Kevin will be there for moral support. Nathan’s cord finally dropped off and his skin isn’t so dry anymore. Sadly we are now fighting a losing battle with cradle cap *disgruntled mumblings*

It’s week three now for Kayleigh and Nathan. Nathan’s Dad is back at work and a Jeremy Kyle overdose persuades Kayleigh it’s time to get out of the house!

Well we have discovered the joys of bending Nathan’s limbs this way and that to create funny pictures and he is soft enough to let us! We have discovered the additional bonus of him being quite a poser making it very easy to get some quality pictures.

Breastfeeding is getting easier though we top up with formula through a beaker as I simply get so exhausted, meaning my milk supply tends to dwindle towards the end of the evening. This is a bad habit to get into though, so it’s not advised, but I find it too hard to pump any reasonable amount of milk as Nathan is the best at extracting the good stuff! He doesn’t seem to mind though; as long as there is something in his belly he is content.

Breast or bottle, washable or disposable nappies? As a new parent, the choices you make on a daily basis are seemingly endless and, with thousands of apparently ‘essential’ products available, it can be hard to raise a child whilst maintaining your eco-credentials. Apart from choosing greener products, (like Cuddledry’s organic baby apron towel of course!), there is one eco-friendly product you mustn’t forget – breastmilk!

We are always being told about the positive health effects of breastfeeding – the mantra of ‘breast is best’ is never far from a new mother’s mind – but have you ever considered the environmental benefits of breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is always a hot topic among new parents, but not always something people feel comfortbale talking about, especially as their babies get older. Our guest blogger today is Judith Logan, 28, mother to Anwer, 8 months. Judith also works part-time, uses cloth nappies, co-sleeps and has been blogging for more than ten years. Phew – we’re very impressed! Judith is still breastfeeding and plans to continue until Anwer is two years old.

I’m ill, we’ve just got home from a long journey, and it’s days like today I feel really thankful I can breastfeed, grateful to all the people who’ve helped me get this far, and appreciative of the benefits breastfeeding brings me. Breastfeeding really comes into its own when all you feel capable of is lying down and watching TV.
