The Mummy Diaries: Week three with Kayleigh and Nathan

It’s week three now for Kayleigh and Nathan. Nathan’s Dad is back at work and a Jeremy Kyle overdose persuades Kayleigh it’s time to get out of the house!

Well we have discovered the joys of bending Nathan’s limbs this way and that to create funny pictures and he is soft enough to let us! We have discovered the additional bonus of him being quite a poser making it very easy to get some quality pictures.

Breastfeeding is getting easier though we top up with formula through a beaker as I simply get so exhausted, meaning my milk supply tends to dwindle towards the end of the evening. This is a bad habit to get into though, so it’s not advised, but I find it too hard to pump any reasonable amount of milk as Nathan is the best at extracting the good stuff! He doesn’t seem to mind though; as long as there is something in his belly he is content.

Kevin went back to work on Monday and I didn’t realise how much he did. There is a colossal pile of baby laundry, the baby bath is still full of water from last night, my clothes are sick and milk stained, my hair is really greasy and I am acutely aware of the fact that this carpet has not been vacuumed since Nathan was born. What Kevin has not done is complete the nursery!! I am desperate beyond measure to get the chest of drawers up, get the stacks of baby clothes off the back of the couch and clear our bedroom of the various parts of “cot” and other nursery furniture scattered here and there.

Nathan is still co-sleeping with us, as I cannot bear to leave him to cry in his basket or crib, and he’s not napping very well. His cord still has not dropped off either, though I am reassured by the Health Visitor who says it can take a while for it to drop off, and informs me of the signs of an infection to look out for. Poor Nathan also has very dry skin, so following the Health Visitor’s advice we lather him in olive oil after his baths, which still seem very traumatic for him! This makes him smell funny (Kevin says we are basting him ready for dinner!) but at least it helps.

He is growing cuter by the day though, so he can get away with being a poor sleeper! Also, with him still being so small (he is around 7.5lbs now) I can easily carry him in his sling – once I figured out how to tie it all up. I have been looking at various activities going on and decided to go along to a bumps and babies group on Friday. I had a bump last time I went so I am looking forward to showing Nathan off. I hope he copes OK on the bus though, he tends to be calm when he is up against me anyway. Either way I need to get out as I was watching Jeremy Kyle this morning and realised I had seen that one before, a sure sign that I have been sitting on this couch too long!
